From Louisville, Kentucky comes a quiet roar that you should be looking over your shoulder for. I use the word quiet because on the eve of his breakout, WhoisTrajik will give you just a moment to embrace the sound, poetry and punch of Hip Hop that you don’t even realize you’re craving. After that, good luck catching up.

Back in the mid 2000’s Trajik caused a stir with his solo music as well as his duo with local Rocker/Hip Hop artist, Upryze. Together, they formed Mirage and found success on a few radio stations locally and abroad with their hit, Rock Star and crowd favorite, This Is Music. They even landed a meeting with Grammy Award winning Music Producer, Frankie Biggz who wanted to work with them and take them all over the world to cause the noise. Unfortunately, due to medical reasons and the wear and tear of life, Trajik took a break and focused on family and his health. Mirage split on good terms and are rumored to begin working on new material in 2024.

Now we can celebrate because that health is back to good and his music is back to rising flame. Damaged comes to us with an instant hook, haunting melody and stops us in our tracks. The lyrics about trying to salvage a relationship but knowing that all hope is practically lost cuts to the core of every human being. I don’t think there’s anyone alive past puberty that hasn’t experienced this.

That’s one of the beautiful things about this artist, his ability to resonate with many. I also enjoy sensible lyrics, especially those that tell a story. Thankfully, this isn’t another song about haters and struggling to become a name you should know, like so many out there. And double thankfully, Trajik never lies in his music. What I mean is that those broke ass Hip Hop artists who talk about all the money, cars, girls, and sex they have grinds my nerves so badly that it’s an instant “nope” from me. Trajik, is an instant “yes!”

I also like the decision he made to bring his wife on the chorus. Her flair adds an extra layer of depth and resonance that helps capture attention quickly. There’s beauty here and you’ll find it right away.
